How To Measure
Handrails
Generally, a handrail should be installed wherever there are 4 or more steps. Measuring for a handrail is simple.

Handrails for Stairs
Measure and mark the distance from the ground up for the height of the hand rail and start measuring from the top step (handrails are usually about 1m high). Measure and mark the same height above each of the steps. Be sure that the marked points are in a straight line. To measure the length of the handrail, measure the distance from the beginning of the top step to the end of the bottom step, or where you think the handrail should start and end.

When installing the handrail, leave about a 10cm gap between the wall and the handrail. Otherwise secure the handrail from the bottom of the posts, onto the steps.

Security doors
There are a few easy steps when measuring to replace your doors.

Simply measure your existing door height, width and thickness. Measure the width across the middle of the door as well as from the top and bottom. Measure the height of the door on the left and right side, as though you were framing the door.

Ensure that the door frame is square by measuring from the top right to the bottom left corner, then from the top left to the bottom right corner.

Keep in mind that it’s recommended to have a 3mm clearance at the top and side of the door and a 5mm clearance is recommended for the bottom above the floor.

Remember to measure the height of the door handle on the wooden door, so that we can make sure that the security door will close.

Security Windows
Getting the correct measurement for your window is important for fitting and operation. There are a few basic principles to remember to get an accurate quote.

To get your width, measure from the middle of your window, you’ll need to measure from furthest point on left, to the furthest point on the right side. For the height, measure from the highest point, top middle of the window to the lowest point at the bottom middle.

When getting a quote or talking with a consultant, be sure to always specify the width first then the height of your window.

Once you have estimated measurements for your quote, a qualified technician will visit your home to finalise the measurements as all windows are made to measure.

This measuring process is the same for steel, aluminium and vinyl windows.

Gates
Gate sizes are measured from the space between either timber posts, walls or brickwork. There is no need to measure the actual gate, fence or hinges as we have already factored these into the gates size we provide.

Please check the brickwork, posts or walls to ensure that they are strong enough to hold up the gate.

We also supply all fittings for gates.

Fencing
Mark the beginning and end points. Measure from end to end the area where you want the fence. Remember to mark out the distance where you want the posts. Posts should be set about 6 – 8 feet apart, but this will depend on the type of fence you are installing.

If you have a copy of the survey report of your property, we can accurately measure and quote you for a fence. Be sure to mark out where you would like gates and the width. Also mark out if there are any steps in your yard. Now all you need to do is choose the type of fence that you want.
